The Grid, Shasvastii versus Steel Phalanx.
My opponent is a returning player, he actually was a Warcor in Netherlands in N2, now moved to Nottingham and reigniting his Infinity gameplay.
Since he was visiting for only 3 days, we played some training (Deployment and first turn) a few times, before jumping straight for the campaign 300pts game of The Grid – he has his first UK tournament incoming and felt he wanted a few pieces od advice.
After a minor list adjustments (I’ve shown him that 12 order lists are not really a benefit) we played this game. One of the most noticeable improvements he made over the test games was the amount of prone tokens used – I feel I did my job well!
Aleph won the Initiative and unsurprisingly went for going first. I chose the board edge I didn't use in our tests and let him deploy first.
Steel Phalanx occupied the most obvious castle with Pheonix + Myrmidons link and sprinkled Thorakitai on the sides
Achilles springs to action, gunning down a Seed and the Gwailo...then he pulls out just a bit.
Acceptable losses if you ask me.
It's a lot of damage management, mostly trying to stop Achilles scoring the easy 4 points, and it fails.
Achilles destroys the suppressing Caliban then explodes the suppressing M-Drone FTO in close combat (Piotr wanted to see how entering cc and fighting looks like - he wasn't disappointed!), Then guns down the Designated Target and runs back behind the bus for cover, almost completing one lap of the table.
With 5 orders it's a quick one. First Shrouded FO switches two right hand consoles to Shasvastii, then Sheskiin comes and explodes one with her D-charges, then she and Shrouded suppress.
In a display of slightly below average dice rolls, Achilles falls to suppressing Sheskiin (in the thicket, mind you!). A Thorakites FO saves the turn by forward observing 3 consoles, but completely fails to observe the one closest to him.
LOL Achilles
