Asteroid Blues

The Corregidor mining crews hired by Yu Jing had suffered several accidents in the last few days and suspected sabotage. They called in Union support to investigate the matter. Due to fighting that had broken out, not enough militant Union members from Corregidor could answer the call, but comrades affiliated to the other Nomad ships jumped in as an act of solidarity. A small, but powerful force of Nomads went out to investigate the matter.

Brigada Lt. Olivier LeGrunt observed a monitor and noticed that someone had activated a heating device. Strange, because the maintenance of the heating devices was contractual part of the Corregidor team, and the military unit was about to do this as part of their security patrol. It was no one from the Corregidor crew who had activated the console, so much was for sure. A Morlok went outside the control room to have a look. There was a sudden bang, the Morlok fell back into the control room, foam coming from his mouth. The death was instant. There was something strange going on here.

A Hellcat landed far away from the Control room, on the other side of what soon was to be a battlefield. Sneaking around a building, the paratrooper spotted three alien beings from the enigmatic Tohaa race. Obviously the enemy, responsible for the death of the Morlok. The Hellcat shot a burst into the back of one of the aliens. The other turned around, throwing a smoke grenade, obfuscating the vision of the Hellcat.

The Intruder spotted the culprit of the killing. A well hidden sniper dug in on a rocky hilltop. An intense and lengthy sniper duel ensued. Somehow the alien sniper survived due to his strange alien technology, but the Intruder died the same way as the Morlok, with viral poison pumping through her veins.

On the other side of the battlefield, a prone Zero on watchout duty saw something strange. There was a humanoid form, or wasn’t there? There was… Whutt?!? An evil looking alien with an even more evil looking blade! The Zero opened fire, warning the nearby Kriza Borac, who did the same. The blade of the assassin cut into the throat of the Zero as the bullet of the Kriza Borac penetrated the vital organs of the alien assassin. Both the Bakunin skirmisher and the strange assassin lay next to each other in their blood.

The Hellcat heard something coming from the other side of the building. As he turned around, he forgot that he had just been on the lookout for the enemy still hiding behind the clearing smoke. A bullet hit him from behind, ending his brief mission behind enemy lines.

A Tohaa armed with an HMG downed the Total Reaktion remote and ducked back behind the cover. Now the Nomads were losing the ability to deal with the enemy sniper overlooking the large parts of the battlefield. Chatter was on to withdraw. The Gecko datatracker made a desperate attempt to shoot a panzerfaust at the sniper, but failed and received a wound himself.

The Kriza Borac had heard enough of this. The Intruder had been a fool drawing so much resources into fighting the sniper with few bullets. Saturating the enemy with tons of bullets was the answer to such problems, not shooting in single shot mode! He left his cover, casually killing two tohaa on the way to find a position to deal with the sniper. He made visual contact with the sniper in his foxhole, let the bullets rip through the air, leaving the tohaa in a bloody mess.

The Kriza Borac noted that the enemy datatracker was nearby. After an exchange of bullets he realised that he would not have enough time to deal with this threat and dug behind cover.

The Gecko datatracker marched on the field to take record of the damage inflicted. A Zero forward observer turned on the heating device so he and the Liberto Freedom fighter would survive the eternal night on the Asteroid.

Disclaimer: The difference in army points after our game was exactly 1 in my favour. I had played poorly while my opponent had not. We decided to call it a draw.
