After delayed arrival in system the 55th Invincible Raiders were rushed into battle to defend Yu Jing interests against the coordinated efforts of the mysterious aliens known as the Tohaa. Grabbing extra cold weather gear, and a local Zhanshi operative familiar with the site, we were able to seize the initiative from the aliens.
While maneuvering to cover the heater control devices the Zuyong heavy weapons specialist managed to clear out the main overwatch threat with little effort and Tai Sheng was able to connect the heater covering the dead zone on our side of the field. While attempting to maneuver our Rui Shi support drone, a hidden sniper appeared covering from an elevated position. After surviving the long range attack, engineer Krit moved to engage with his Feuerbach with support from the rest of his team. After being wounded by a lucky shot, Krit was able to remove the threat. After more positioning the 55th prepared for the Tohaa counter attack.
Using strange alien technology the Draal was able to counter the effectiveness of our Zuyong team, and managed to eliminate Tai Sheng with little effort. After more maneuvering he wounded our heavy weapon specialist and knocked out Krit. Then a drop trooper appeared behind our lines. As he began his flanking run, our Zhashi operative died alerting the rest of our soldiers to the new threat. In the ensuing fire fight the airborne trooper would lose a wound and be temporarily blinded with no effective return fire to our units.
Back on the offensive, but having lost momentum, the 55th now tried to gain some breathing room. The Rui Shi made quick work of the Gao Tarsos, but the Lu Xing missed his drop zone in the Tohaa backfield. The Shang Ji medic was able to use his Flamethrower to knock out the units supporting the Draal marksman, but it took concentrated efforts by the whole force to knock out the Draal. This left the 55th still on the back foot, but with secured flanks.
Tohaa forces responded with a team lead by a Sukeul commando taking out our Haido and Rui Shi that were protecting the heater controllers. They also managed to reposition their other forces, but could not capitalize on the ground they seized due to being blinded by our embedded Warcor.
With one last chance to do enough damage to keep the Tohaa forces from connecting their heaters and forming a bridgehead into our territory, it was time for the Daoying commander to take point. The Warcor finally fell trying to distract the Kosuil pioneer that was the biggest threat. Our Daoying reactivated her camouflage and rounded the corner on the Kosuil and Spec ops team managing to down the Spec ops, but failing to do damage to the Kosuil. It was then the HMG specialist’s turn to shoot at the Kosuil, but only managed to wound it. The Shan Ji then made an attempt but was out of range to make any quality shots. Out of time the Daoying made another attempt at the Kosuil as she moved to cover protecting the control units, but the Kosuil was too quick and took her out of the fight.
With their forces diminished, Tohaa made a last ditch effort to connect any heaters. They got one connected under the cover of smoke, and positioned the Sukuel’s team under its protection. As temperatures suddenly dropped, the remaining Invincibles activated their heating units, and too many Tohaa units fell to the freezing temperatures to hold the field. We were unable to recover out spec ops’ cube as it was severely damaged by shotgun fire.
This was a hard fought game with a difference of only 34 points. I was only victorious because I built to the scenario better (Thank IA HI). Stand out models were the Warcor for surviving most of the game flash pulsing and alerting to change my armies facing twice, and the Shan Ji for holding the Draal back with the threat of his Lt Flamethrower. I was disappointed with the Lu Xing for missing a great run when it failed its drop roll on 15, and Krit was taken out of the game fairly easily due to having the Feuerbach in a link that needed to maneuver up field and being sat on by a Makaul so he could not automedkit.
Good work staying in the fight as your units were taken down.
Congrats on the win! I’m digging that color scheme.
Welcome aboard the Asteroid, citizen of the Empire!
Congratulation on holding the line!
Good work defending the Pit. Did any of your troops smell Durians near any of the shipping containers?
