Asteroid Blues

Having come off an odd engagement with the Haqqislam forces, I was to report to the local O-12 detachment. Much to my surprise when, upon arrival, they started shooting. Well, to be fair, at first they just started setting perimeter weapons, but as far as I could tell, they were very aggressive perimeter weapons! I had my orders to neutralise, with non-lethal force, if possible, the stationed O-12 forces.

As per my orders, we were at the assigned location waiting for our O-12 friends. They appeared in force, with a couple Epsilons, a Gamma, Sirius team, and gangbusters. We were either being setup, or there was some serious miscommunication. Before we had a chance to clear things up, the O-12 started moving on us in full force. I'm not sure if they were expecting us to just sit there and behave, but we certainly did no such thing. After our trigger happy Order Sgt with rockets downed a gangbuster, I saw a... something wiggle out of the corpse. I changed the rules then and there. Maximum force, no quarter. The other gangbuster took offence to killing his buddy and started his advance. He was able to get deep into our ranks and set a treating Kragle bot before I found my shot. After what had to be a surprising resistance from us, they adopted more defensive positions, and waited see if we'd respond.

We did respond, though with less teeth than I'd have liked. KotHS decided to duplicate herself into MSR looking Sgts, and that seemed to scare the O-12. Added benefit when the holo baited a Madtrap and diffused what may have been an awkward glue. Our machinist grumbled about having nothing to do, but I liked it better that way. Oh, and her other holo copped an shot from Feurbach armed thicc boi, so I knew he had to go. I knew no one else was up to the task of maybe eating the explosive round, so I shouldered the responsibility and put them all on firesquad support. They kept my biscuits out of the fire, but even after unloading 5 clips into the thing, I'd only managed to nick it and force his head down. I took the opening to down a Kappa and an Epsilon, the fireteam earning their pay. I was going to be in DEEP do-do if this turned out to be a friendly-fire situation. Knowing I couldn't back down, I pressed into thicc boi, and with 4 of my fireteam in CC support, hit him with my explosive axe 4 times. There was no wreckage to identify.....

I had the O-12 thinking about their life choices, and the decision to try to get the drop on my unit. It did not go over well for them. In obvious disarray, they made a desperate stab at inflicting any damage. So far, just the magisters looked a little beat up. The Bounty Hunter must have been wetting his diapers fearing that he wouldn’t collect, so he took the shortest path to his target - Mr. Order Sgt HRL. Man, he either got undersold or had no idea who his target was, either way, it looks like that bounty is still out.
It was time, however, for Mrs. Wick to exact revenge. Our trauma doc did a little surgery on the sirius bot, and yes, killed the poor thing. That little bit of bravado ended up costing HRL and a magister time amongst the healthy. She ducked behind a rock and we could tell she was ready for more.

So, now we had some soldiers to avenge! We promptly went to it. Our now lonely magister tried to put some slugs into Mrs. Wick, but was unable to hit anywhere that counted. So, we piled in and I made sure my axe still worked: spoiler alert - it did, and Mrs. Wick is recovering in medbay. Her old body wasn’t salvageable, like at all…. We mopped up afterwards and waiting for HQ. Joan took no part in the action, and the Warcor was too nervous to record much. We’ll have to see how much fallout there is, but I’m really hoping it’s not much.

The game was bloody and brutal. That Gamma can certainly take a punch. If you don't bring the right tools to down him, it can be miserable. I also need to talk to HQ about getting me some smoke. Things get really slow when I have to crawl everywhere!

Good game with lots of lessons to learn. It reminds me to set up bootcamps for some of our guys just out of basic....
