“Sun Tze, we have unwelcome guests approaching the facility. Linking you surveillance feeds. Pan-O troops posing as a small infiltration team but we spotted an engineer tagging along with them. No REMs spotted so TAG support is likely, as well as hidden hackers and infiltrators.”

Sun Tze was a recent arrival at Nova Bangkok. The fallout of the third combine offensive on Paradiso had rapidly changed the focus of the State Empire and Sun Tze was chasing down Shasvastii activities on the remote asteroid. The TAG was going to be a problem, the surveillance post attached to Jīyuán Unlimited was relatively new and had a very limited supply of combat hardware available. It wasn’t impossible to smuggle contraband weapons and equipment across the human sphere but it did take time to make sure it arrived without causing incident. The presence of any TAG let alone one of Pan-O’s cutting edge armoured giants was going to leave Sun Tze badly outgunned. On the other hand he now held the initiative and whoever is first in the field and awaits the coming of the enemy, will be fresh for the fight, and Sun Tze had a plan.

“We’ll greet them in one of the sub-zero temperature zones. Clear the zone and activate remote overrides on the heating units there. I want a squad consisting of mostly remote operated units and armour with capable of withstanding the cold to limit our potential casualties. While the enemy is scrambling to repower the heaters so they can advance we’ll engage them.”

————————————————-

Sun Tze’s opening strike had gone miserably. The trap was sprung as planned and they rushed a quick strike with an enhanced Lu Duan to remove Pan-O’s main defensive overwatch by killing a Kamau sniper who was attempting to cover their advance to the heater consoles. The Kamau proved to be too adapt as a marksman and destroyed the Lu Duan multiple times and the Yao Zao that was able to repair it. As expected a Cutter had materialised out of nowhere killed their attached WarCor before it could get any good footage to gaslight the maya network with, knocked out their chai-yi, and caused significant damage to Sun Tze himself. An ORC NCO had taken advantage of this and pushed up to turn one of the heaters back on alot faster than Sun Tze had planned for. On the other hand the enemy’s aggression had gotten the better of them and they had moved too far ahead of the Kamau’s ability to cover them, the Cutter relying on laying down its own suppressive fire to hold its ground.

The Shaolin took advantage of this, managing to get smoke coverage in front of the TAG. Pan-O’s mechanical giants were technological marvels in many ways but they were quite helpless at the hands of experienced close quarter combatants. It took the Shaolin considerable effort but the end result was the Cutter being disabled. As the smoke cleared the triumphant monk was gunned down by the ORC who proceeded to then activate a second heater. Pan-O’s engineer sent her Palbot to make a desperate attempt at reviving the Cutter but it failed and the Palbot was gunned down by an agent clad in some black market Zuyong armour Jīyuán Unlimited had hidden in storage. The ORC attempted to hold the centre of the field with suppressive fire, taking cover behind a mining hanger with a camouflaged Echo-Bravo providing close range comms disruption while the Kamau watched over their direct approaches from a distance.

This had proven to be an overconfident mistake again born from the Kamau’s prowess as a marksman. The Shaolin claimed a second CQC victim in the form of another Echo Bravo hacker that had been holding the right flank of the combat zone. With help from the Shaolin’s smoke Sun Tze had finally committed his Su Jian to the fight to cautiously move into position on the right flank where the Kamau coverage didn’t reach, and launch some explosive rounds at the ORC beating the area with suppressive fire, catching the Echo Bravo behind her in the blast. The Su Jian was damaged in the process but the main goal had been achieved to eliminate the communications disruption and expose the ORC’s rear to attack. Above her was a camouflaged Zencha that had remained hidden the entire conflict, who clambered down past her out of the Kamau’s kill zone and proceeded to gun her down from behind. The Zuyong advanced to hold the contested zone with the manual overrides for the heating units and permanently disabled the Cutter while they were at it. With this the Pan-O operation had become a complete failure and they were forced to concede defeat after gunning down a Shaolin that made a desperate run for a heated zone.

It was a victory for Sun Tze but not without human cost. All his Shaolin had died in the conflict and his Zhanshi support trio succumbed to the cold. The disastrous start to the ambush had left him without the chance to activate a heating unit in time before their limited heating suits gave out and failed in the sub zero temperatures.
