"the heinous y2k bug will bow to me and my glorious rifle" -wint (@dril)

Lieutenant Rashida Ghali surveyed her squad. They were all leaning against, or sitting on, the enormous bulk of the scorpion-shaped TAG dispatched to assist them.

“OK, listen up. This is a simple in-and-out. Intel states that a pair of VIPs are inside the maze of tunnels the locals call 'the Chimneys'. We get in, grab what data and personnel we can, shove it all in the big beauty you're all using as a couch, and get out. Any questions?”

Jamila spoke up. She alone wasn't sitting on the TAG, instead crouched in front of her pair of Nasmats buffing their optics. “Opposition?”

“Intel states a basic Dakini patrol, nothing we can't handle. It's not like they're going to bring that damned Marut in to these cramped tunnels.”

This game started poorly and got worse.

I went first, and knew my best chance at success was destroying the Marut before Shamash got a turn. If I dropped it, not only would he be in Loss of Lieutenant but the board would be mine for the taking.

I put FIVE ORDERS in to shooting it with an AP Multi-HMG and in the end the Maghariba Guard was a smoking ruin. OK, I thought, so far so bad, but let's try again. His luck can't hold!

So the Najjarun puts the Maghariba Guard back on its legs. This time I get clever with it, and use a coordinated order to have the Maghariba Guard and Ghulam with a missile launcher hit it from different angles. Despite the Ghulam landing a crit, the Marut shrugged off the rest of the EXP hits, and a Dakini's combo-rifle longshot critted the Maghariba Guard.

From there, Shamash handily swept me off the board and secured a lead in points. I elected to concede, since there was no way I was going to handle the Marut with a bunch of Ghulam and Naffatun. The only saving grace was that for a brief moment his own luck failed miserably and a Dakini failed to roll a WIP 14 roll five times in a row. That was nice. But I still got my teeth kicked in by a robot monster.

Team photo! There were few survivors.
Curse you, robot devils!
I noticed after setting up terrain that there was a straight-shot right down the middle of the board, so I stuck some rocks on the table. Whatever works to block LoF.
"Surely this will work!" - me, a got-dang fool
"Oh." - me, having learned a hard lesson about the fickleness of dice.
"Yay!" - me, happy for my Najjarun
"Booo!" - me, sad for my Najjarun
My final objectives. I was able to score more than you might think, but...
... Shamash was able to score one point more, *and* the new ones we drew for the start of his turn were going to net him an easy two or three more with no chance of me stopping him.
Cat tax! Greg wanted to see what was up, maybe eat a model or two.

As per usual Shamash has much more detail in his report. He actually takes notes during the game like a good student, whereas I'm off behind the bike rack smoking.
