Asteroid Blues

Lieutenant Rashida Ghali crouched low, poking her head over the wall. She leveled her rifle over the edge and whispered in to her comms.

“Hamdan, report.”

“SCORPION-1 and SCORPION-2 are advancing, but I think-”

The roar of an explosion filled the comms, and Rashida winced at the noise and the blossoming flower of fire on the far side of the landing pad. She winced when a second roar and a larger explosion erupted near the first. Her comms crackled to life again.

“-yeah. I think they're walking in to an ambush.”

More explosions. Liu Xing droptoops – a favourite in the confines of this damned asteroid. She watched one descend on the fireteam of Khawarij and Ghulam, and heard them all open fire on each other. She almost turned to assist but another Liu Xing rocketed down near the landing pad. She leveled her rifle at him.

“I see you, ya bastard.”

This game started as a disaster for me, but I was able to squeeze out a victory.

I figured I would have good luck using my Maghariba Guard like a hammer. Instead, I lost both of them to AROs, and then blew up one of them with a failed Engineering check. My turn ended with no points scored.

RazorsEdge started strong, securing two points. One was scored on my turn by neutralizing my Maghariba Guard fireteam, the other on his turn by his Liu Xing landing all up in my zone. One Liu Xing landed right on top of my Khawarij/Ghulam fireteam, but they inexplicably lived through it.

The game went right up until the bottom of turn three, where RazorsEdge needed one more order to tie the game up. Being one order short the game was a tight 5 – 4 win in my favour.
