Requesting Recovery Team for Recovery Team
200 POINTS//In our last episode Lt. Zahia Soltani's investigation team had been ambushed by USAriadnan troops. Back at NBIS she is putting together a recovery team.//
Soltani rushed to the ops room of SNF Iskanderun. "Who's available?" she half shouted, out of breath, as soon as she was through the door.
The woman at the ops desk showed her surprise briefly, but pulled assignments and rotations up on her holo-display. "Most of your detachment is on patrol duty, Lieutenant..." she started
"I know that. Who's available?"
"... there's an ETTVAK task force on stand-by for emergencies."
"Hassassins?" Soltani thought to herself "I didn't even know they were onboard..." but she said "Activate them."
"I'm requesting it now, ma'am. Activation approved. Where should they meet you?"
Deployment on the left. Far left things are a Mutt against the building and a Daylami Panzerfaust that failed its roll standing in the open. I didn't realize they were off screen when I was editing the photo.
Deployment on the right minus a Ghulam sniper in the core team which the Blackjack killed before I remembered to take pictures.
On the left, I had a mutt positioned to jam or chain rifle several models if they activated. He got around it by shooting from outside template range, which I responded with throwing smoke with the intent to jam things next. I did get off several, but he made every BTS save the entire game. He laid mines to knock out the mutts.
Sorta the same deal on this side, with the same result. Didn't successfully jam anything, and went out to a mine.
End state on the left. I had a Muyib haris that was down to Duo by my turn 1. The Asawira got off a sweet double crit and killed a shotgun/flamethrower Grunt, but that was it. It got a crit back and was finished by the blackjack. I tried to regenerate and it died. All I could do was pick off his stuff holding the consoles and I did actually manage two long shot attempts to do that. Shown here is the sharpshooting work of a Ghulam Doctor.
Not only were the Ariadnans still there, they had reinforced, and were ready for more.
The Hassassin Bahram had barely arrived on scene before most of their heavy weapons were shot down by a USAriadna blackjack, and a Minuteman HMG supported by four Grunts.
The Ghazi Muttawi'ah did a valiant job trying to hold the USAriadnans back, and were the only members of the team able to get up to the mission objectives.
The fearless Asawira put up a noble fight, but was overwhelmed by the Ariadnan firepower.
Soltani's Ghulams were able to do some damage control, but continuing would only be advancing into a meat grinder.
"Tactical retreat!" Soltani called through the comms to the remaining Ghilman. "Provide covering fire for each other as we fall back!"
Lt. Zahia Soltani sat at her desk filling out reports regarding her two encounters of the day.
The losses ate at her.
She pressed on with her report, nevertheless, noting which bodies or cubes were recovered, and which were not.
By the end, she felt drained by both sorrow and simple exhaustion. Drained, but determined.
"I will see this through, inshallah."
She submitted the reports.
"And whenever it is over, I may request leave for a pilgrimage."

@PillageIdiot I recently read an article from a guy who built a dice rolling machine and was able to identify favored numbers of individual dies, which manufacturers made more random dice, etc. So I went ahead and salt water tested all my dice, and am now only using ones that were too dense to test. That of course doesn’t mean that they are rolling randomly, but dense seems like a good sign? So far I’m not sure if I feel like it’s made a difference. I’m also still pretty sure I just have a blood curse.
Looks like your legendary luck continues. I agree with Danger Rose your dice need penance. You should cycle through some more until you finally find a set blessed by Allah!

Poor Zahia! Make sure your dice go with her to that pilgrimage, they have years of pennance to account for.
Some days nothing goes right when you need it. From what I could determine, you didn’t make any serious mistakes, some things just didn’t work when they probably should have.
