This one was done after a long day of work, so it might not measure up to my usual standard. The scenario was honestly just a quick warm-up for later in the evening, but it ended up being a lot of fun so we ran with it.

::XARAKS BATTERY, SEPTEMBER 26TH, 0530 HRS (NBST)/ 1330 HRS (CST)::

The rotation to the rear for a breather had been nice, he decided. Now, to ease back into the front, he and his team had been sent on a standard patrol to an unsecured (but as far as O-12 intelligence knew, abandoned) hab complex near one of the ammunition and supply modules. A milk run, command had said. Knight knew better than that, but hey, maybe those reports of rogue Tohaa in the complex were just wild exaggerations. Frankly, Knight liked it better when it was simple: criminals shot at you, you glued em down and took ’em into custody. This international, interfactional nonsense was causing nothing but problems, between the Ariadnans’ quarrel with the Haqqis to the “rogue Tohaa element” that was supposedly encroaching on Human territory and not responding to friendly hails.

Whatever. Knight hoped this patrol was simple, easy, and that this whole operation would be over soon.

Kopis advances into the hab complex (note the awesome new terrain)

With the support of the new Razor and Lynx operatives, Knight was sure this would be a breeze regardless of whether or not it was a milk run. The complex was covered in dust and mouldering equipment and electronics. However, a loud crash and a clatter of falling machinery alerted Kopis to the fact that they were not alone.

Quickly they dashed in and tried to locate the source without giving up tactical advantage. The troopers with long rifles knew to get altitude and spot for the boys and girls on the streets. However, the Shasvaasti found them first, a Speculo plunging her blade deep into a Kappa who only had time to scream. Gallo's Siriusbot was quick on the trigger, coating the offending alien in a thick layer of riotstopper foam. She was quickly finished off by the handler's boarding shotgun in a welter of gore.

The Shasvaasti creep forward behind the abandoned comms tower.

It was then that the firefight began in earnest, with combi fire echoing off the walls and human and alien cries mixing together in a horrible crash of carnage.

Knight pivoted and took several HMG rounds in his shoulder before bringing down yet another Gwailo. This was his... third? of these awful things now. Too many. He spotted a Caliban face-deep in another fallen Kappa's guts and roared in anger, unloading his Feuerbach at the enemy. It was too quick for him, though, jinking out of his line of fire... and into Korso's. The Epsilon felled the disgusting creature with a neatly-placed shot in the head.

Korso can see everything from up here...

A few more shots barked out, and some Nox troopers scuttling across the alleyway collapsed. Then Korso made a pained grunt. One of the CA troops had spotted him. There, at the top of the comms tower! Knight tried to fire but his rounds bounced off the superstructure. To his right he could hear Voss's glue-gun coughing, followed by the clattering of Kappa combis.

The Lynx screamed as she fell to a well-placed shot from a mentor. Hexe spun and blasted the Shrouded that had coalesced over Van Dien's bleeding body.

When the dust settled, only Knight, Voss, the new Razor, and the Gangbuster were left standing. The Sirius handler was knocked out and her bot was a wreck. Van Dien would need yet another Lhost... Knight rolled his eyes after checking that all his troops' cubes were intact.

He radioed to HQ that the hab complex was secure, for now... but would need some serious reinforcement.

...but someone can see him.
