Sometimes, there’s nothing that trumps dice. Seven crits in one game is hard to overcome. Unfortunately for my opponent, he found himself in that boat.

I was working from a limited insertion list with a Kriza taking the lead. I had the A-Team core team, a haris with Wild Bill (who was free for the mission) and two KTS, Avicenna, and a flash pulse bot. My opponent was working with 19 orders to start with a janissary core.

I began by winning the lieutenant order and just kept winning. I went first and my opponent tried to hide everything. So, I started by taking advantage of the uncontested middle and rushed Wild Bill’s haris up. Wild Bill was my data tracker and started by killing the designated tracker and the camo’d model defending it with a crit on each. I followed that by pushing up further to get a shot on a janissary from the core and crit… twice. By the end of the first turn, my opponent was pinned in his own deployment with me having lanes covered in good range bands with shotguns. Needless to say, my opponent was frustrated.

My opponent began his activations with a little over half his orders left. He started by trying to dig out his janissaries. Through his entire turn, he did a wound to Kriza and dropped my Fugazi, my Bolt, and one Kaplan. Meanwhile, what was left of his janissaries were out in the open.

To start my second activation, Wild Bill kept on making magic happen. Creeping around a building, he swept through the backside of the janissary team and killed a couple cheerleaders to boot. By the end of this activation, I’d rolled SEVEN crits. My opponent would be starting his last activation with four models and less than 75 points. Unfortunately, retreat isn’t available in Decapitation.

My opponent used what was left to charge me blindly. To my opponent’s credit, I had yet to kill a lieutenant. That changed when he attacked Wild Bill. From there, we ended the game. He couldn’t get to my designated target or my lieutenant and I had 10 objective points. The only thing left would have been tabling and there wasn’t much fun left for my opponent to have.

After the game, we discussed what happened. There wasn’t really much to say about what he did. It’s hard to overcome seven crits. I can’t really tell if Wild Bill is a monster in such a context. The only thing he could have really done to improve his chances would have been having some ARO presence to slow down my first turn advance. ForCo is tends to shine in the shorter ranges.

All that said, Hannibal and his band of merry miscreants had a really good day defending their favorite stomping ground on the entire asteroid!
