We played using the mission Exfiltration from the Recon+ ruleset (https://rocketshipgames.com/infinity/recon+/). This allows play on a smaller scale and at a faster pace.

Personal Log of SSgt. Aaron Rogers.

The mission was simple, we were to extract our agents from the battery field. They had infiltrated haqq lines to attempt to figure out what they were up to. Surprise, surprise, things didn’t go as planned. Instead of facing a raiding haqq force or just a simple recovery mission, we found ourselves running smack dab into a JSA force attempting to recover their own agents. Didn’t we shed enough blood in Kurage? Why are they messing with us again?

Our small team consisted of the Marauders SSgt Ramirez and Cpl Johns, who were joined by Operative SSgt Katie Ryan. I was teamed up with Foxtrot Sgt Estevan Lopez. We were supported by Doc Foster and Maverick Cpl. Kelly Anderson. The operation was being led by Lt. Chambers. That boy needs a break, eventually fatigue will set in and he’ll screw up.

The JSA brought some heavy hitters with them. On our right they brought a Shikami, Yuriko Oda, two Keisotsu and a Kempetai. On our left was a Yao Zao and a Karakuri. Those damn robots are terrifying. Reports also say they got a major overhaul after Kurage and their survivability has skyrocketed.

Cpl. Anderson, being just as crazy as every other Maverick, charged upfield and engaged the Shikami. His ODD and accuracy proved too much and she fell, bike skidding out from beneath her, spraying bits of ground everywhere. I started wondering if this op was about to go sideways. Fortunately for my mental health, Doc Foster cautiously advanced and managed to revive Cpl. Anderson. As she dusted herself off a out of place object got her eye. She focused in with her visor and realized it was a mine. She then proceeded to calmly shoot it, not the most prudent method but it worked, before she charged forward again, engine revving and gravel spraying from the back wheel. The Shikami didn’t expect her back and took a burst of SMG rounds to the chest, knocking him flat. Anderson continued her reckless charge and engaged the Karakuri and Keisotsu paramedic. A couple rounds hit the robot, but it held its ground, only minor damage. The Keisotsu’s aim was true. His shot found a weak point in Andersons armor and for the second time she crashed down, this time pinned under the bike. At this point Lt. Chambers gave the order for a general advance to try and extract our agents. The Lt., Doc Foster, Sgt Lopez and I all moved forward. I was the poor unlucky SOB that had to brave the Karakuri’s fire. I was lucky as hell that the shot slammed into my mag pouch. After we were in position of Lt. laid down suppressive fire to cover my position.

The Japanese were pissed at this point. The Keisotsu medic managed to revive the Shikami and he charged forward. He must still have been dazed from the adrenaline shot and his shots went wide while both the Lt. and I hammered him. I don’t know who got the kill shot but he went down permanently. Their next move was to heal the Karakuri and try to take on SSgt. Ryan. For whatever reason, the Karakuri had terrible luck. After two rounds of fire, the Karkuri was down and SSgt. Ryan was unscathed. This was totally opposite of my experience on Kurage. The JSA were now a mess and we had free reign over the battlefield.

Sgt. Lopez and I found our agents and sprinted with them back to our DZ while the rest of the team provided overwatch. Things were looking good.

The JSA forces were desperate to recover and again healed the Karakuri while Yuriko Oda charged forward. The Karakuri’s bad luck continued because Ryan’s rocket blast caught both it and the Yao Zao. The Yao Zao became a charred wreck while the Karakuri, proving its resilience, rose up and engaged Ryan as its systems failed. Yet again, Ryan’s aim was true and the Krakuri finally fell, permanently. In a last-ditch effort to extract one of their agents, the Kempetai charged Lt. Chamber’s position. The Lt. held his nerve and poured fire into the charging Kempetai, sending him tumbling into the wall as he fell. At this point the JSA had nothing left and abandoned the field.

Our only casualty was Cpl. Anderson, who is now recovering in hospital. How we managed to pull of such a flawless mission is beyond me. I’ll never forget the casualties I took facing them in Kurage. I hope not to fight the JSA again, but I won’t hold my breath.

Aaron Rogers, signing off.
