A standard patrol ended up going very, very wrong. Who fired the first shot is yet to be determined but I plan to carry out a thorough investigation.
The patrol had been diverted. Orders were to make contact with a local source and upload a data file by taking control of nine data terminals in the area. Sounds simple enough right? Shame the Aleph Robots turned up and started firing at us.
McMurrough took point. Jumping down from his position he moved towards the first console. A glint in the distance caught his eye but despite his superhuman reflexes, he was unable to respond in time. A second later, heavy machine gun rained down on him. "A bit of help here!" he cursed. "I got ya" came the reply. The nearby bounty hunter stood up from his concealed position, firing his Akrylat-Kanone at the unknown target. The Dahshat patrol had received no intelligence on hostiles in the area and so they planned to cause as few casualties as possible.
The Akrylat-Kanone found its target, gluing the shadowy figure in place. "Target contained, McMurrough, you're free to advance" said the bounty hunter calmly. "Roger, advancing now". MucMurrough continued on towards the first console but seconds later, his body crumbled over, blood gushing from a large head wound. A hidden sniper had revealed itself, felling the famous mercenary.
It was clear, this attack was not just random dissidents. An Aleph force was in the area and had their sights firmly set on the Dahshat mercenaries.
Sushi the Rui Shi, who was assigned to the right flank strike squad, whirred up its twin-barrelled spitfire and let out a hail of gunfire at the hidden sniper. The bullets, although accurate, failed to damage the Aleph unit. The Aleph sniper, quickly changed firing position and responded with one clear shot, destroying the remote.
"Curses, what is up with that bot!" Miranda shouted over the group chat.
Miranda ordered her bounty hunter team forward. They still had their objective but she was also aware that they needed to deal with this threat.
Another shot from the Aleph tower took down a bounty hunter as they advanced. "Neutralise that position, we need to get to the console" shouted Miranda. Returning fire with the Akrylat-Kanone glued the Aleph into place allowing the bounty hunters to advance further up. As they advanced, Miranda quickly took control of consoles as they passed.
It was quickly becoming clear, that the Dashat teams offensive capability had been blunted.
