Asteroid Blues

Dahshat Company mercenaries under the Command of a recently promoted Zuyong Lieutenant received information about an imminent attack from PanOceania troops; More specifically the Varuna Immediate Reaction Division. McMurrough took the lead in the counter-attack, charging along the left flank. He received less than accurate fire from a hidden Helot as he advanced, using expert smoke grenade drills to avoid the fire. The Varuna force had taken up a dominant position on a solid structure, providing good line of sight to both a Multi-Sniper armed Kamau and a Feuerbach armed ORC trooper. McMurrough called in for fire support from the attached Rui Shi remote as he had found himself pinned down behind one of the large centrally located buildings.

The Rui-Shi remote, affectionately known as Sushi, whirred up its twin-barreled spitfire and rounded a corner, firing at the ORC trooper. Moments later, the Rui Shi pilot found no response to movement commands, the remote was down. Looking back at the data, it showed a half-inch miscalculation had resulted in being in a poor firing range. In return, a lucky shot from the Feuerbach had reduced the Rui Shi to visual reception only. Cursing, the remote pilot switched off the image feed and booted up a retro game on the console, Halo 15, classic!

Behind a generator, McMurrough had located a team of ORCs, including the annoying little Patsy Garnett. McMurrough had lost a bet with the annoying little one and he smiled to himself as he saw a chance at payback. McMurrough pulled the pin from a grenade and threw it. It was a long shot, longer than he’d trained for, adrenaline can do a lot in a pressing situation though and the grenade found its target. Patsy let out a cry as she and her team took the grenade blast, their ORC armour protecting them from most of the shrapnel.

The ORC team advanced. Boarding Shotgun pointed towards McMurrough they came out. The place erupted into a firefight, shotguns, chain rifles and grenades all went off. Moments later, the location near the generator was covered in a thick fog of smoke, visibility was gone. The ORC team continued to advance, splitting up to take optimum firing positions for when the smoke cleared… they had a dog to put down.

The young Zuyong Lieutenant was growing frustrated, with two of his teams best assets down, he was running out of options. “Where is that Wild Bill we were promised” he yelled over the command channel. “Coming, coming, coming, *hic*” came a reply. Moments later a Wild Bill shoved his way out of one of the bars, drawing his pistols he ran towards the enemy. The Kamau Sniper reacted quickly, decommissioning the Wild Bill. “Great” said the Zuyong Lieutenant.

The attached Al Fasid new he was the last chance of pulling this fight back. As he contemplated his options, a new data point popped up on his command console. A designated target had been found. Pointing his underslung grenade launcher into the air, he fired off a ranging shot. The grenade landed near the target but he knew he had to get closer. “Sir, i’m going for the target” he yelled. Dashing out of cover, he attempted a commando roll to avoid the Varuna firepower. Alas, he was struck by both the Multi-Sniper and Feuerbach. As his vision grew dark, he cursed to himself, “I knew I should have just fired those grenades”.

The Zuyong Lieutenant thought about his options. Things weren’t looking good for the Dahshat Mercenaries, Sushi was out, McMurrough had been shot as the smoke obscuring him had gone, and now the Al Fasid veteran soldier was no more. Too many lives had been wasted, and too much company money lost, the Lieutenant withdrew his forces, leaving the Bar to the PanOceania force.
