Lost in the Maze

Working with my Alpha Lieutenant, we began our recruitment of units and were sent to patrol the Chimneys. Had some good fortune to find the Aristeia legend Wild Bill looking for work. Sadly that luck faded. In the dark areas lurk terrors. At a nearby grid, we encountered a Shasvastii force stealing data. I sent the team to engage and secure the data. We would destroy the Antennas if it could stop the aliens from gaining anything. The Omega and Varangian ran out there first, feeling foolish and invincible into the dark…the dark took them. Two Noctifier Missile Launchers made quick work of the brave idiots. Our Epsilon Sniper dispatched one of the Noctifers with ease. He also kept watch over the center field and nothing would get past his gaze.

Team Sirius moved next, she gambled on trying to flank the enemy on their weaker side, where a Pit Patrol team and one of those Doctor worms were hiding. The Pit Patrol was ready for them. The dastardly Taigha was able to do more than enough to end Team Sirius, which let the Cutthroat move freely to take out one of our Razors. Luckily the other Razor was able to mark some of the Antennas. This let me use a Millcent Copperbot to bombard the points with Smart Missiles. Wild Bill was able to get some work done by destroying one Antenna with some fancy pistol-work. Sadly, with almost half of my forces gone, the Shavastii Forward Observers moved with impunity on the sides the Epsilon couldn’t see. They marked targets for data collection and then used a highly advanced Sniper Rifle to destroy them when they were done. They sent some of those evil little Taighas at us but thanks to the hostile environment, the little monsters were taken down.

But when I saw the Delta reinforcement drop-in, scatter into the darkness followed by one gunshot, I knew we were done. The enemy had the data they were looking for. It was time to pull back. To add insult to injury, that Noctifer took one last shot at Wild Bill. We were able to recover his cube…not much else.

We must do what we can to rid this place of the Combined Army.
