VS O-12

With ISS forces descending onto NA2 territory to root out the State Empire’s enemies with great prejudice, it was only a matter of time before O-12 mediatory forces would be drawn to the conflict. The O-12’s desire to preserve peace clearly ran at odds with the ISS’ duty to enforce justice, and with negotiations quickly running sour, things quickly took to arms and the alleys behind Harry’s Bar ran with blood. (NOTE: Remaining point values include the ‘Shadowshooter’ Wild Bill trooper)

The ISS forces would take the initiative in this battle, forming up aggressively along the southern edge of the battlefield (TABLE LAYOUT: SOUTH NORTH). Expecting strong resistance from a sniper’s nest, the commanding Hsien and his forces set up to push up through a blindspot in the centre. But they did not expect an unconventional counter-deployment on the Epsilon sniper’s part, locking the brave enforcers’ positions down.

However, in the neglected far eastern edge of the theatre, unknown to the O12 forces at the time, was a hidden Ninja. Moving deftly up the unprotected edge of the combat zone, she managed to stealthily engage the O12 commander and brutally silence him, as well as one of his fellow Kappa Unit guardians.

With the Sniper’s position still undeterred, the supporting Crane squad then took it upon themselves to aggressively push the opposite end of the combat zone. However, this aggression may have been too much. While the Crane Agent managed to neutralize the O12 Gangbuster and his mad traps while setting up their own traps at the enemy DZ, doing so left Guy Feng Xi Zhuang in an overextended position, and would ultimately lead to his downfall. The rest of the fireteam was forced to use the last of their brief operational window to regroup in a defensive position around their HVT (noted as Musashi in the photos).

While the O12 had taken some painful blows early on, this did not take away their spirit to fight back. On the contrary, they decided to retaliate with a rage that would likely be removed from all official reports of the incident — if any reports at all would manage to see the light of day. Almost summarily, the pair of Varangian Guard who had originally failed in their duty to protect their Kappa Unit commander laid down a hail of SMG fire upon the Ninja that inflicted critical wounds. While she had been successful in claiming her prize, it would not come without a painful cost. To the west, the other pairing of Varangians set up a wall of smoke for Hippolyta, the O12 Datatracker, to advance and killed the now defenseless Xi Zhuang, although in doing so one of them would suffer grevious wounds. Unfortunately for Hippolyta, the smoke was not enough to protect her advance entirely, and she found herself quickly wounded behind a wall, pinned down by defensive fire from the remaining Celestial Guards.

With both sides of the conflict held in place by the other, it was the O12’s chance to break the equilibrium with a decisive move. Just outside the Crane team’s entrenched position descended the Delta Unit. With riotstopper at the ready, he rounded the corner and launched its adhesive payload at three members of the team, managing to lock one of the Celestial Guardians down. Unfortunately for him however, the Crane reacted in time to dodge the blast, leaping with expert agility to close the gap between the two, leaving nothing but the cornered edge of a derelict shipping office to separate them. In a final, desperate move to pull tension away from the Delta, the Gamma Unit in the centre of the O12 deployment zone rumbled to life, pushing into position at the doorway of the centre-most building of the battlefield to threaten the opposition.

But not was the time for the ISS to resume their aggression. But before they could coordinate their next move, a single Kuang Shi, mad with fervour, moved out of position and was quickly gunned down on impulse by the entrenched Epsilon. But this would not be entirely fruitless, as it gave the Zhanying tasked with defending his Hsien commander a plan…

But before that could be enacted, the Crane team had themselves in a bit of a pickle. The next moments would be crucial. Deftly, the Celestial Guard holding the smoke launcher took initiative, launching a veil of smoke for the next offensive and blocking the view of the Delta and Gamma. Next, the Crane broke his command of the fireteam. What would come next would have to be done alone. With his next movement, the Crane went forth with the full intent of bringing the Emperor’s Law down upon the head of that pesky Delta. But the Delta Unit himself had something to say about that. Depsite his best efforts, in this doubly critical moment, the Delta managed to avoid the most critical of slashes and thrusts from the Crane’s assault. But the Crane readied himself for a third strike, this one hitting home and killing the surprisingly worthy foe instantly. But there was no time for the Crane to celebrate, he still had more of the Dragon’s Justice to dispense. Moving through the smoke-filled battlefield, he finally would meet with his true target, the Gamma. His movements were swift and elegant, leaping out of the smoke and dodging the Gamma’s suppressing fire while landing home with his own blow to break through the Gamma’s armour. With the Gamma wounded and the two engaging in a deadly dance, it was time for the Zhanying to take their chance…

…taking advantage of the Epsilon’s twitch reflexes and trigger-happiness, the Hsien’s squad sent out one of their mad traps to distract him. At the first sign of movement, the Epsilon reacted, placing a shot squarly on the trap and blowing it to pieces. But this was enough to provide the opening that the squad needed, with the Zhanying moving into position to face the Epsilon directly. Under careful guidance of the Hsien, the Zhanying triangulated his fire on the Epsilon, the focused burst of fire hitting home and neutralizing the sniper’s threat.

With the primary O12 threats neutralized or otherwise occupied, the Hsien squad then began freely pushing up the table, setting up their defensive position to prepare for their next and final offensive. In the ensuing moments, with the O12 units unable to push forward enough to free up their heavily oppressed position and the time for the engagement shortly running to a close, the O12 team opted to flee for the day, giving the ISS forces a hard-fought victory to wet their appetite before indulging in the real justice they had set out to enact…
