Prelude...the final one

Last week of the campaign...and since we had some quite enjoyable games last week, Tom came for a visit again to get some more. Oh boy, if he knew beforhand what was about happen.

We had another three games on Thursday afternoon, but this is going to be the only one I will report. That was definitely not a fun day for my opponent. But wait for it!

I must apologize beforehand: we took quite a number of pictures, or at least thought we did. My phone was in AI mode and tried to focus quite long...which we took for a foto being taken...which it wasn't. So I had to make the best of the few pics I had available...quite a shame.

So long, just click that video and listen to some beautiful techno...really my cup of tea!

Mission and Lists

We played Recon again...this game was Rescue again, so we would be fighting over getting HVTs out of there. And again I swapped my "classified" for killing three priority targets...just for the fun of it.

I really start to like Recon. It's short and sweet, not too much of a fuss. A game usually can be done in an hour or less and there is plenty of room for bad decision...just start over, no big fuss. 7 orders keep you from getting the "decision-paralysis" and things are just on point and bloody. I especially enjoy the limitations on points, impetuous troops and linkteams. No spam, just basic troops with averege profiles. Nice!

We decided to allow on limitation to be ignored and both chose one model above 35 points.

Listwise I went with a solid basic list: Caliban Spitfire, Q-Drone with a plasma rifle, two Shrouded Minelayer, two Ikadron and a Mentor. I really started to like this combo.

Tom wanted to try the BIG ONE, so he picked the Daiyokay, his trusted Kempeitei-Keisotsu link, two baggage bots and of course Yojimbo...damn.

Deployment

Tom won the initaitive roll and decided to have me deploy first...didn't really understand why, but he thought that second turn might be the better choice for this mission. Probably not the worst idea...but not in this case.

I deployed really aggressively, perpared to go coordinated into my quadrants with everything I got, and then send the Caliban to deal some damage. Tom on the other hand had his Daiyokai and Kemeitei exposed for ARO, while Yojimbos Koalas covered the other flank.

Turn 1

So I started to move my Mentor with his Lt. order into my left quadrant. Then the Ikadron and Shrouded coordinated...the Daiyokay got a glimpse of one Shrouded, but failed to discover him/it/ze...whatever. Quite lucky for me, as that camo state would really help againgst Yojimbo.

Then the Caliban went for his rampage. And a rampage it was. Unlucky dice rolls for Tom and his Kempeitei went down. Lucky bs-rolls for me, one crit and one unlucky save for the Daiyokay, and he went down as well. Boy, that was brutal. But the Caliban still had some orders to spend and moved up to feast on the Tokusetsu...one wound up, my turn ended.

It already looked quite dire for Tom, but he went for his turn anyway. Yojimbo moved up, right past my Shrouded, and right into the view of the Ikadron. FLASHPULSE!...SMOKE DODGE!...Flashpulse hits, Yojimbo stunned. Not waht he had planned...and not what I had exected to happen.

So he coordinated his Panggulings and the remaining Keisostu to move up. The Pangguling and one Keisotsu ended in his quadrants, while one Keisostu seemed to get a little crazy. He reaveld his Lieutenant and took a shot at the Caliban...who saved the only hit and retreated into cover. So another attack later, the Keisotsu lay face down. That definitely didn't went well.

Still we both had two quadrants and round 1 ended in a tie.

Round 2

The game basically was over at that point, still we agreed to play that turn.

My Caliban took a shot at Yojimbo and killed him...again a crit. The Pangguling made his/her/zer/whatever change facing but was then shot down as well. Neither of the HVT hit with their stun pistols. Then the Shrouded ended the other Pangguling with his shotgun.

Slighty overconfident, the Caliban then split his burst to hit two HVTs...killed both. The Shrouded then rolled pathetically, but slightly better that the HVT, which went down as well.

At that point Tom finally conceded.

Results and Aftermath

So the game would have ended after his turn but there was no way he could have controlled any quadrant with his last remaining Keisotsu in retreat and lol.

At the end of turn 2 it was a 4-1 for Shasvastii.

He really had to take quite a beating this time, party due to my lucky dice, partly due to his unlucky ones. The whole afternoon Tom wasn't really successful. Belive it or not, this was the longest game that day. Tom didn't lose his good humor (maybe due to the beer?), and took it like a true sportsman. AND: he plans to get into Infinity again, probably starting Ikari...but we'll have to see about that.

I decided to report only this one as it just didn't feel right. 10 reports seem to be a good number to end this campaign.

Final words

To be honest, I didn't really enjoy this campaign as much as Kurage Crisis, althouth this has not been on my faction! Playing Combined Army was a good decision and I had a good time with all the bad guys. Graviton really managed to keep me motivated in phase 2, big thanks for that. Still I felt that CB was a litte too occupied with their preparation for the Defiance kickstarter and there should have been more attention to what is going on. A lot of opportunities missed...unfortunately.

Anyways, this has been my story for Asteroid Blues and I really want to say thank you to all of you taking the time reading, commenting and rating these reports!

Hope to see you guys again next year, when I will probably be back in my role as a Speculo infiltrating another faction...who knows ;)

Cheers!
