Oh boy, this sucks so bad...but first things first...click the video for some music. Trust me...that's how I felt after this "game".

So Steve and myself went for a game or two on Tuesday. Actually we thought about having just one, but that changed quickly. He was nice and let me choose the location, so I opted for The Chimneys.

My plan was decent...get first turn, ignore all the triads, mark 3 or more consoles, prefrably in the center and hook them up with D-Charges from my Caliban and detonate them with Dr. Worm in turn 2. All assets were secondary. A decent plan, don't you think?

Tadaaaaaaa...lost the initiative and Steven chose to go first. Who would have thought that.

Let's do a little test here. If you read this, please comment with "Bostria is a Speculo". Just to see how many people really read all this shite.

The table was kinda bad for me. Huge buildings in the deployment zones and long firelanes that made moving quite difficult, despite the high density of terrain. So I took the slightly less bad side and hoped for the best.

4 Traids...and a camo marker. That was really bad. Especially that Gao Rael Sniper on the building in the lower left corner promised to be a huge problem. But only one of 4. Basically there was nothing much I could do to stop him from tossing Eclipse Granades and checking as many of the consoles as he wished. Specialist and Makaul everywhere...damn it.

So I did the best i could to somehow force him to slow down a bit. Noctifer on the central building, TR-Drone to the left, Speculo managed to deploy in his zone and place a mine right betwenn all his guys. So far so good. As these pesky flamers could be hell fo my camo troops, I deployed everthing else as safely as possible...hoping that I would survive turn 1. Of course Forward Deployment was all useless. But that was that.

But then I made my worst mistake. I forgot about his infiltrting Draal and put my HVT right in his reach...of course he nominated that dude as his Datatracker, while I totally forgot about that and only had Dr. Worm as a legit option. Well done...brilliant!

I chose to steal 2 orders and then the pain began.

First, his Igao made short shrift of my Q-Drone...which had a Plasma Rifle, not the HMG I had thought. Then his Draal shot my HVT. I had revealed the Noctifer to distract that guy, but the Mate just took the hit.

It took hin his Lt order plus 2, to get rid of that mine, before the Gao Rael Link shot my Noctifer. A second combat group well worth it's points.

Draal then got ontop of that buildung through the doors and discovered my Shrouded AHD while blocking all exits. Finally Igao went back into Camo and that was it. At that moment he was in perfect position to go for the line of Consoles in my half and there would have been pretty much nothing I could have done against that.

I had to stop that Triad and my only real option left was the Caliban, so off he went. What followed then...well...let's just call it idiocy. pumping shots into the Sukeul, not managing to get a wound on that dude, only to go down after all. 3 oders left I just didn't see how I could have turned that game and conceeded.

Straightforward 10-0

Conceeding usually isn't a good experience for both players, but I just saw it as a way to get in second game that evening, while watching Steve winning the mission...well...I have been a witness to this before, so no need for education.

My list basically didn't offer real stopping power, the table wasn't to my advantage as well, and that freaking Gao Rael is just Shasvastii's bane. Plus my stupid deployment choices and tadaaaa...there you go: a well deserved victory for Steve. Well done buddy.

Anyone surpirsed if I said that I simply dislike Tohaa? Especially with all their shiny new toys from Spiral that nobody can pronounce...

...but wait for it. Just when you though it couldn't get any worse...well part 2 incoming.
