VS Haqqislam
Kampilan

This is my last campaign win on a very busy weekend, so I will keep this brief and end it with What I Learned during Asteroid Blues. Thank you everyone who played with me both on the table and online. To all the great Tohaa commanders, you made this first campaign and Novvy Bangkok very special for me.

The Tohaa fungal contribution to the Japanese Bottom BBQ!

Pre-Battle:

I win the Lt. roll and choose the more annoying side of the table to set my ARO triads on.

The three Shasvastii eggs are my HVTs -- the real HVT is #3.

Once again, we have ChinaBill.

Our battlefield today.
Our Tohaa Forces today -- Einhorn's Hunting Party!
Our HVTs and decoys.

Top of 1: Haqqislam Impetuous Spam

The Haqqislam turn begins with a lot of extremely impetuous action. Smoke gets thrown to defend against the Sukuel's ARO, but both smoke and missile miss.
Another moves forward but the ARO Triad are all beyond 32" and can't fire.
Smoke gets thrown over the Muhktar to protect it from the Sukuel.
Here I learn that you cannot delay to discover :(
The Haqqislam hacker goes to the console, getting two +3 rolls and fails both. Tries again with another order and almost fails with a 20 and a 5.
The Haqqislam do a big coordinated order: the Mukhtars shoot at the Gao-Rael which stays unwounded but uses its Symbiomate. It wounds one of the Mukhtars in retaliation.
Another coordinated order happens: this time Tariq moves forward again and the Mukhtars go after the Gao-Rael on its perch. The Gao-Rael miraculous keeps saving, and the other Mukhtar takes one wound. The Kotail reveals itself and teams up with ChinaBill to finish off the Mukhtar on the left.
The remaining Mukhtar tries for the Gao-Rael again -- misses three more times! The Gao-Rael gets one shot in and takes down the Mukhtar!
A camo marker moves towards the console. The Sukuel discovers that it is the Chain of Command Farzan, which presses a button.
Leila Cybermasks and goes for the rightmost console.
Interestingly, Haqqislam end the turn with all the consoles activated and all the HVTs revealed.

Japanese Bottom of 1: Gao-Rael Opened The Way!

The Kerail moves forward and throws smoke to mask the Gao-Rael.
The Gao-Rael's triad shoots the dangerous TRbot, which crits the Sukuel twice! However, the Gao-Rael also crits it twice and it goes down, opening the Tohaa pathway to the consoles.
The hidden Clipsos moves forward and shoots the Farzan down before claiming the leftmost console for the Tohaa. It discovers the real Designated Target nearby.
The Kerail moves forward aggressively and the Surda start taking fire. One dies but takes down a specialist.
Our coordinated order fails to land any hits.
The Draal goes up solo and takes out one of the Haqqislam impetuous troops.
The Kerail takes a risk and crits on Leila, removing her from the field.
For its own safety, the Clipsos re-enters TO.

Top of 2: Haqqislam is almost in retreat but will win if they enter it!

The Impetuous orders happen and try to catch the Kerail, Surdabeast, and Libertos with its chain rifle. They all dodge and reshuffle!
Another impetuous move happens on the left: the Chaksa and ChinaBill ARO and kill.
Another attempt is made with the chain rifle, but this time the Gao-Rael sniper gets a shot in. The Libertos enters Dogged state.
Tariq enters the fray! He shoots everyone. Then misses everyone. He saves against the Pulzar, everyone else also miss!
Another Tariq order! The Kerail saves with the help of its Symbiomate. The Libertos gets crit. The Gao-Rael gets hit. Tariq saves against the Pulzar.
WildBill steps forward! The Kerail takes two hits, but the Gao-Rael gets a shot in on the shadowshooter and takes it down.
Someone tries to throw a JAMMER at my Kotail, which is very rude. It takes combi in the face but saves.
Tariq moves and gets engaged by Surdazilla. Gao-Rael gets hit twice but he saves. Tariq misses the Kerail again.
Now an intuitive attack happens against my Clipsos in TO. It saves versus the Jammer.
mmer.
Tariq and Surdazilla fight! It's a 17 vs 18! Surdazilla!!! Tariq goes down.

Japanese Bottom of 2: How Many Buttons Can We Press?

The Makaul throws smoke to cover the advance.
The Kaeltar moves a lot and wastes three orders before it finally presses the button.
The Dogged trooper protecting the HVT survives a coordinated order. The Gao-Rael moves and fires!
The Clipsos re-enters TO and shoots the real target down.
Surdazilla takes two orders to kill decoy and doctor with pulzar.
Draal runs in to press final button but fails.

Haqqislam enter retreat. Game ends. End of Game Tally

Tohaa kills Designated Target: 3
Tohaa kills more decoys: 1
Tohaa own more consoles: 2
Tohaa Datatracker still alive: 1
Tohaa Designated Target still alive: 1

8-0 Tohaa!

What I Learned This Campaign

- It's been a really fun month, but since my only possible game time are weekends, it means my weekends have been extremely frantic (and I've only managed a handful of games even at that frequency). The early part of the campaign was easy but I really ran out of steam by the 2nd phase.
- I entered this campaign thinking that I was the only one who would be taking on the leadership of the Tohaa, but many leaders stepped up in the end! Next time, I will push for the Tohaa standard to be many leaders as the single leader model wasn't agile enough to manage the speed of the campaign diplomacy/target selection.
- My gaming schedule is really a bad fit for end of phase reports and how the site starts lagging on the final day.
- The best unit I bought for the campaign was the Kerail Preceptor and the Surda Symbiobeasts. The figures I got and didn't use much were Neema Sartar and the Igao, but I feel I will get use for them in Spiral Corps.
- A year into the game, I still have a lot to learn about the rules. I'm looking very forward to N4's simplification and hope it removes the nested Russian Doll rules.
- I want to do this again! I will also spend the year running the book campaigns and maybe even a custom for my local meta so I can develop my voice and fiction for next time. For now, I can see Novvy Bangkok becoming the base of my Tohaa Trident as they also end up doing odd jobs with the Spiral Corps to maintain funding for the stranded military.
