VS Nomads

High Pneumenarch, this is Shasvaasti Continuum cell 8547A3 reporting. While the humans are busy squabbling among themselves we were able to launch a successful incursion into the Cosmika HQ of the group calling themselves “nomads”. Valuable intel was gathered as we breached their transmission matrix securing an attack vector to Arachne, eliminated a key target, inflicted severe losses, and accomplished all tertiary objectives.

A detailed report follows:

Our forces deployed aggressively as befits a quick strike, but Shasvaasti caution was observed. Agents Messer and Sheskiin took shelter behind a warehouse near a matrix beacon, their Nox trooper escorts covering their flanks and rear. The Med-Tech mechanoid was positioned to watch a corridor on the left flank, with his slave droid positioned inside the warehouse should Sheskiin be wounded. Our Caliban and Mantors were camoflaged within reach of additional matrix nodes with a Gwailo trooper gone to ground atop the tallest structure we could find to provide overwatch. The new Taiga creatures were sparsed all across our front line.

Our enemies forces were deployed very conservatively. Those we could identify were in safe locations, with only a journalist and a line trooper exposed. However the linetrooper was armed with a feuerbach which gave us some pause. They also made use of the suicide droids known as “koalas”. The rest of their units were difficult to identify before we launched the attack.

Smelling fresh meat the Tiaga creatures could no longer be held back and were unleashed. One of them was cu down by the feuerbach and another was stunned by a lase weapon before we could reassert control. Once we were able to assert dominance over their aggression they pushed up in a coordinated hunting sweep. Two more were felled, however such loses were acceptable. All enemy mines and koalas had been triggered, as well as some of their disguised units flushed out. The lone surviving taiga creature was able to score 3 casualties before succumbing to a koalas explosion. While our tactics in using these new creatures can use refinement, the overall impact was satisfactory. They are cannon fodder, if their deaths clear the way for our forces to advance safely then such is acceptable.

The Gwailo was then instructed to move into position and begin raining destruction upon our foes. He did so to devastating effect. The enemy journalist and feurbach were both destroyed with a well placed salvo of fire. Then using our advanced optical technology two hecklers were rooted out, their primitive human camouflage providing no benefit, and quickly eliminated. Their prone status providing no protection from the superior elevation of the Gwailos fire. The final shots of the Gwailo were placed into a convoy engineer, exercising commendable foresight the Gwailo used high explosive loads to catch an enemy remote in the blast wave.

With the enemy forces cleared up Agents Messer and Sheskiin were able to tap two matrix nodes, perform a net-undermine, and retreat back to safety before the enemy could counterattack.

The enemy counterattack was pitiful. As is to be expected from such a race as the humans against our superior technology, intelligence, and strategy. Though to their credit they did not break and run despite such high initial casualties. Their genetically altered “morlock” troops rushed up the board and one was cut down by Gwailo fire. They did succeed in securing a single matrix node. They were also successful in eliminating their designated target and capturing one of our tiaga creatures who had fallen. What use it will be to them is unknown. No mission can ever be 100% successful, but the enemies success was limited to within acceptable parameters.

Responding to these movements our Caliban trooper moves around the enemies flank to approach their Bandit from behind. Unfortunately he was discovered from his camouflaged state and was unable to catch it unaware. Instead when the Bandit attempted to engage him, he was cut down a burst from the submachine gun. For future engagements, against such an isolated target Armor piercing rounds should be used. We can make use of an unconscious enemy to bolster our own forces with the Protheion protocol versus shredding him to pieces with fragmenting rounds. The Caliban then attempted to eliminate further enemy targets however their armor proved unnaturally effective at deterring our rounds. Seeing the enemy closing in around him, and seeing multiple mines be deployed the Caliban trooper gave his life selflessly for the mission. Seeing a wounded morlock on the ground he pounced and decapitated it. Being shredded by enemy fire and two mines as he did so. The loss of a single life is acceptable to advance the mission, and seeing such savagery will surely drain enemy morale.

The enemy took up more defensive positions now, realizing the battle was mostly lost they sought to minimize the damage we could cause. A morlock trooper was able to run up field and take down one of the Nox troopers, while another enemy trooper outflanked the medtech who was cut down by fire and a mine. The final remaining enemy troopers took up suppressive fire positions.

Our final push was rather uneventful. Agents Sheskiin and Messor, along with their remianing two escorts pushed up the field. Sheskiin was separated from the group and moved to flank the enemy positions. She was able to score a kill but was taken down by sheer luck as two enemy shots found their way directly past her nanoscreen and armor. This is of no consequence however, her seed embryo was recovered and extracted, she shall soon return. Agent Messor continued the drive into enemy lines securing another matrix node, while our Liason officer eliminated the designated target and was able to map our the enemy lines for future reference from a habitation unit, completing the final tertiary objective.

We intercepted transmissions from the Nomad commander indicating his urgent need elsewhere and his troops fled the field, realizing the battle was lot and preferring a rout to a suicidal vengeance attack against our superior forces.

Lessons learned to take to future battles:

The Taiga creatures are highly effective cannon fodder, but should be reigned in as much as possible until the way forward can be cleared.
The Gwailo was highly effective in his purpose as an overwatch unit and active clearing piece. If resources allow it may prove effective to give him a pair of M-drone escorts.
No matter how outclassed an enemy is, no move is without risk. While Sheskiins tactics were correct, the best laid plans of Gaki and Ur often go awry.

This concludes my report. We shall go to ground and await further incursion orders. May all our battles go as well as this one as we prepare the scene for the main arrival of our Combined Forces.

The Bat Rep was great! I didn’t find it wordy at all. The only thing that would make it better is more pictures interspersed within the narrative itself, but I certainly understand how hard it is to remember to take pictures when you are playing a game!

  • Santyago says:

    Very completly narrative rep!

solid report! and another fine victory for the EI!

You know you’ve had a good game when you say “I wish I had AP’ed down the Bandit so I could’ve Protheion’ed it…”

    Thanks for the report!

#BromadFistBump (now get off our rock, you aliens!)

  • TheDiceAbide says:

Solid write up, I love the part where you included what you learned from the game.

@Nimrod, thanks! This is actually my first ever Shas list that I’ve run. Likely going to change it up and forego Sheskiin for the next one. She’s such an amazing piece but I don’t want to limit myself and include her in every list (though many people say she is a straight auto-include). Narrative wise this would fit with her having to regrow from seed emrbryo and sit out the next operation.

  • Nimrod says:

Thanks for the batrep. I love the narrative! Pretty solid list too.

@Manfred, thanks. I don’t have a good video recording setup so I like to “soundtrack” my bat reps instead.

@Mike, Your authority is not recognized in fort Combined Army!

Nice! looks solid! sad to see the Combined win though

I like to do narrative bat reps, hopefully it wasn’t too difficult to follow. If you have any questions let me know. I’ve got to get my Shas painted a bit, still deciding on a theme. But I did just get them Tuesday and 2 days is nowhere near time to build and paint.
