During the fighting over the Chimneys, a force of Yu Jing was spotted carrying out operations in Chimney Delta-03. After requests for comments from Yu Jing about the operation were denied, Aleph dispatched her champion Achilles to lead a team to capture the location. Either Yu Jing was destabilizing the area, or it was Shasvastii infiltrators. Either case would be stopped.

“I only see three guys from here boss. They seem to be watching the location from that building across the way.” Thamyris said in his comms to Achilles.
It didn’t make sense, the scouts had reported at least nine individuals in the location. They would have to smoke some out, in case it was an ambush. Both Shasvastii and Yu Jing soldiers could be a tricky bunch. “Okay, keep an eye on them,” Achilles responded, “and let me know when a few have shown up, and try not to be too showy and give yourself away this time.”
Achilles issues some orders for Thrasymedes to take a small patrol of Thorakitai up the right flank, while he waited to swing in from the left once a few of the infiltrators were discovered.
—–
“I can’t see shit in this dark maze,” Thrasymedes muttered to his team. “Fan out and check for them, they were supposed to be tampering with the antennas.”
A few moments later Ioanna approached him silently to whisper, “First one spotted, just around the crate. He’s got his camouflage system running, but he’s right on the antenna.
Inching his way around the crate, Thrasymedes prepared his first volley and informed the Myrmidons brought in support to be wary of movement. After the first shots, the enemy forces would no doubt shift and be easier to notice. With that established, he fired three rockets off and ducked behind the shipping container. No return fire was heard, so he poked out again and noticed none had hit the target. He was a slippery asshole. He loosed three more rockets and hit pay dirt. The soldier was hit. It was only a glancing hit, but he could no longer hide.
“We got contact, but the bastard has scrambled behind cover. He looked like a Yu Jing scout. Can you pincer him?”
—–
Scanning the battlefield after Thrasymedes warning, Machaon’s team picked up an anomaly next to a fountain, where another antenna was set up. “I think I see him Atalanta,” Theseus said on his comms. “You should be able to spot him if you hug that wall by you.”
Following his advice, Atalanta shifted up. While Yu Jing camouflage tech was advanced, there was no way it would compete with Aleph’s visors, nor her spotbot. “He’s dead,” she said cooly, as she put a shot into his helmet, causing it to explode out the back of his head.
—–
“I’ll get that opening you need, Thrasymedes. Just got to take care of a shadow near Thamyris, before it hits him.” Achilles darted out of the building he had been hiding in on the left flank. The enemy had not realized he was hiding there and was moving to respond to the Thorakitai. It was just as he planned.
He leaped out of the building he was in and down from its balcony, before firing his Nanopulser into a pile of crates near Thamyris. It disrupted the figures camouflage long enough for him to corner the woman. She fired off a shotgun blast at him as he charged into melee, only in the dark it was next to impossible to see the Homeric hero. He darted up on her and impaled her on his blade, before quickly removing it from her chest and removing her head next.
As he did this an individual came up over the shipping container behind Thamyris and Achilles barely dodged the burst of fire by rolling towards his attacker. Caught in the moment, he pushed forward recklessly into the barrage of submachine gun fire, vaulting the crate easily and killing the woman firing it. The two pieces of the body left at each side.
Looking down from the container, he noticed Shū Lán, the Yu Jing liaison, who claimed they weren’t acting against Aleph in the region. She was uploading data on a nearby antenna. He hopped down and in one quick swing, cut the top of the antenna off and mortally slashed Shū across her chest.
“Boss,” Thrasymedes said over comms, “can you get on this guy? I think he’s trying to tap into our local data network.”
Momentarily broken out of his rampage, Achilles climbed the building next to him, drawing a line of fire across the pitch black battlefield to the soldier in burned armor. He let loose a barrage of fire, which only served to push him behind the other side of the antenna.
Now exposed from his end, Thrasymedes poked his head back out and slammed three rockets into the Yu Jing soldier, blasting his body apart.
While this happened, Achilles spotted another camouflaged individual in the distance near Thrasymedes. She was trying to hack the local network and was laying in wait for Thrasymedes’ team. He moved up to the parapet of the building and let loose a precise barrage of fire. It only clipped her, but she curled up behind the antenna, holding her gut.
A small lull in the battle formed, on to be broken by a sudden explosion. A mass of shrapnel flew into Achilles. His armor taking the brunt of the assault. He fled into an open shipping container on the rooftop.
“Thermoptic Missile Launcher trooper in quadrant Delta-01,” Achilles called over his comms, “move forward and provide support fire.”
—–
Before he could react to the call, two more missile flew into Thrasymedes direction, slamming into the building behind his team. “He’s got us too,” Thrasymedes called back, “I’ll tell the team to try and stop those hacks on the network. While we wait for support.”
—–
“I guess I have to save you boys again,” Atalanta joked over the comms, as she climbed the building out of which Achilles had jumped. She dropped to a knee, and could barely see the target, even with all the state of the art visors she carried. Regardless, she snapped off two more shots, and the missile toting heavy infantry had fallen.
—–
Achilles climbed out of the crate, with things having quieted down outside, to survey the situation. The missile launcher trooper had been a distraction to try and retreat. The hacker he had shot, looked like someone had tried to drag her away, but left her when they realized she was dead.
—–
A report was later filed. Seven human bodies were recovered, all in Yu Jing colors, but no longer in any database. The network was defended in the area. Yu Jing did not release an official statement on the incident, but they had unofficially launched protests through diplomatic back channels at the murder of their diplomat. A heavily edited version of the encounter was played on Myrmidon Wars later that week, in which the Yu Jing soldiers were edited to look like Shasvastii infiltrators. Yu Jing did not contest the footage, and noted that Liaison Officer Shū Lán died in the incident, presumably to Shasvastii forces. Yu Jing citizens demanded increased access to the Chimneys so they could avenge the killing.
Conclusion:
Aleph Designated the most Antennas (2 to 1) for 3 points.
Aleph Destroyed the most Antennas (1 to 0) for 3 points.
Aleph killed the Designated Target for 2 points.
Aleph killed the Designated Target with their Datatracker for 2 extra points.
Yu Jing did not kill the Designated Target.
Total 10 Aleph to 0 Yu Jing.
Great write-up and pictures, Commander! Congratulations on your victory!
A Phalanx to be feared, what a rush!
Awesome battle report! Very detailed!
Great writeup! I guess Yu Jing shouldn’t pretend to be Santa Claus and crawl around chimneys :p
Nice detailed report and and another victory for ALEPH! Good job commander!
Yeah we didn’t think to do it until the end, when the super long shot is made.
Nice write-up and good play-by-play. It would be nice for some of the photos to be lower angles to get better perspective of fire lines (like sniper shots for example).
An excellent writeup! But of course this setback will only delay, not defeat, the inevitable triumph of Yu Jing!
Yu Jing came into the wrong neck of the woods imo.
Excellent game, although once more Aleph is shown to be an evil, oppressive and murderous AI. Damn Aleph and their many warcrimes 🙂
