Venturing deeper into the Ammunition facility means that passages get more narrow and the area a little more neglected. We soon came to a network of hallways and corridors that led to an inner control room.
We believe the Shasvastii infiltrators were using this area as a type of base of operations. We decided to try and engage them in close quarters – while we weren’t exactly outfitted for a fight like this, we had little choice. We decided to try and secure the central command room and from there we could control the bulk head locks. We acted swiftly by shooting down the door with a Feuerbach. Varangian guard rushed in to cover any incoming threats. Gangbusters assumed defensive positions along with their mad traps. Shadows seemed to move on their own as our Gamma-class was ambushed and killed in a melee. A few of the madtraps went off but we couldn’t see on what – their homing devices led them through vents into other hallways we didn’t have a visual on. The door was broken open by a pair of Jayth as they engaged the Varangian guard, exchanging shotgun blasts and chain rifle volleys.
I’ll never forget what happened next. All the lights went out. It must have been the shaking of the facility by those damn artillery guns on the surface. No one could see a thing though, those of us equipped with helmets quickly switched to night vision – but as you know, night vision needs at least a small amount of light to work with. We had nothing. Emptiness – a void. it felt unnatural. All you could hear were the sounds of shuffling, bladed weapons slicing flesh, and the screams that followed.
After a few moments the back up generators kicked in and only emergency lighting was restored. It was better than being left in the dark with those things. We were able to take down some of their remotes that couldn’t adjust to the change in lighting. Our epsilon that covered a long hallway was killed by a Gwailo, as the alien advanced towards the center objective attempting to reclaim it from us. Our Beta was blown apart by a Jayth inside the room aswell – they’re going to stop lending me these things sooner or later.
Finally decloaking, the lynx took action. She stormed the room and took shots at the Gwailo, easily tearing through his nano screen with blasts of plasma – which luckily splashed onto the Jayth as well, reducing both to nothing more than technological hunks and melted flesh. The aliens we’re rather depleted at this moment in time and couldn’t get to the center control room fast enough before we locked the bulk heads.
While we wait for reinforcements I’m making everyone under my command undergo a field examination of possible cube corruption or speculo impersonating. You can never be to sure, and frankly, they would feel a lot better if they knew their friends are who they say they are…..
I’ll report back with anymore I find, but I can tell sweeping the Ammunition Module is going to be hell if anymore battles are like this.
